Non-ferrous castings
Besides the already-mentioned ferrous alloys, we also supply non-ferrous castings. We offer:
- aluminium sand castings
- aluminium and zamac gravity die castings
- aluminium and zamac (zinc) high-pressure die castings
The process to be chosen depends strongly on the quantity required. Sand castings are selected if the number of pieces remains under say 1,000 per year, whereas gravity die castings will be used if the annual volume is between approximately 1,000 & 10,000. Finally, high-pressure die castings are chosen if the quantity is higher than say 10,000 per year. The cost of patterns or tools determines the final choice. Wooden patterns are rather cheap whilst a tooling for high-pressure die castings is much more expensive.
The advantage of zamac over aluminium is that zamac allows very thin walls because of its very high liquidity.
